Women’s Health Associates has a diverse team of obstetricians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants who focus on all aspects of pregnancy care from preconception counseling through childbirth and postpartum. We understand how important it is to have a provider who will support you throughout your pregnancy experience. We believe a woman’s involvement in her birth process is the first and most important step toward a safe and satisfying delivery.
Obstetricians are doctors specially trained to help with pregnancy, delivery, conception and more. Pregnancy can be a delicate time and an obstetrician is a great resource for keeping you safe and healthy throughout the process. Obstetricians are specially trained to identify complications, providing treatment for any complications they may require extra care.
Obstetricians provide pre-pregnancy counseling or conception counseling, prenatal care, can add in labor and delivery and offer postnatal care. Our Obstetricians and Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) at Women’s Health Associates in Boise and Meridian are here to help with your pregnancy needs no matter what they may be.
Obstetricians are there to help with birth plans and provide expert care during both labor and delivery. We work with patients to develop a birth plan that meets their unique needs and desires. Women’s Health Associates can assist in both vaginal and c-section deliveries, working to keep both mom and baby safe throughout the process.
During a pre-pregnancy appointment our team works with patients to ensure their body is ready to get pregnant. The focus during this time may be on nutrition to help eliminate or reduce defects that can come from vitamin deficiencies. Our team can talk with you about concerns, risks and other factors that may affect your pregnancy journey.
Prenatal care is a big part of the obstetrics practice at Women’s Health Associates. Our doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants will be by your side throughout the nine months of your pregnancy. Periodic physical exams and tests are performed to check on your health and the development of the baby.
Postnatal care is equally as important as prenatal care and the changes to your body can be drastic post delivery. These appointments allow us to discuss any questions you may have and aid in your breastfeeding journey. Postnatal appointments also focus on your mood and mental wellbeing. Postpartum depression is a normal and natural thing for many women and we want to see how you are adjusting and if you need any emotional assistance.
There are a lot of different tests and screening done during the delivery process. Blood typing, anemia screening, gestational diabetes checks and other blood tests are common tests performed during prenatal visits. Depending on the patient’s age, medical history and family history other screens may be needed like chromosomal testing, genetic testing or amniocentesis.
High risk pregnancy requires special care. Women’s Health Associates works with high risk patients to monitor both the mothers and baby’s health. Some of the common high risk factors include multiple fetuses (twins or more), diabetes, hypertension, maternal age of 35 or older or past complications. High risk pregnancies require more frequent checkups and many require additional screenings and monitoring to ensure both mother and baby are safe. The increased monitoring has yielded great results and the vast majority of high-risk pregnancies end with healthy babies.
