Women’s Health Associates offers the latest minimally invasive surgical options for common gynecologic conditions such as abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and ovarian cysts.
Minimally invasive surgery is a method that involves small skin incisions instead of a large open incision. Specialty tools are used during the surgical process to allow the surgeon to perform the surgery through the small incisions. Most incisions are less than an inch. Many specialty surgeries can be performed through this surgical approach including laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Robotic assisted surgery can also use a minimally invasive approach.
A minimally invasive hysteroscopic procedure uses a small telescope called a hysteroscope which allows the uterine cavity to be visually examined without any incisions. Many providers utilize this procedure to determine the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding.
Laparoscopy also utilizes a small telescope. This procedure allows a surgeon to evaluate the pelvic anatomy including fallopian tubes, uterus and ovaries through a small skin incision. The laparoscope or camera allows the surgeon to send live pictures to a screen. This allows the surgeon to examine the organs and then perform any necessary surgeries, including complex procedures with minimal trauma. Some laparoscopic surgeries utilize the da Vinci Robot Surgical System to aid in the surgical process.
Robotic surgery is a process that utilizes the da Vinci Surgical System. This is typically used when a case is too complex for traditional laparoscopy. The da Vinci Surgical System enhances a provider’s ability by extending the capabilities of their own eyes and hands.
The 3D high-definition views provided by the system, gives your surgeon a perfectly clear view they otherwise would not be able to achieve. Women’s Health Associates providers have extensive training with this system.
If you feel like you may be a candidate for one or more of these procedures, please give our office a call to schedule an appointment. We will work with you to make sure you get the treatment you need.
